New tour to show off Harry Potter movie props

Harry Potter started life as a series of books written by British Author J K Rowling. However, now it has seemingly taken on a life of its own and has transformed into a huge worldwide brand, with movies and merchandise galore.

In a new development, some of the props used in the films will go on show on the outskirts of London.

Warner Brothers is aiming to recreate the magic of the flicks by introducing a major tour at its newly renovated Leavesden Studios. Located just outside Watford, this base has been the home to some of the biggest feature film franchises ever created and has thus seen more than its fare share of movie props. Indeed, as well as Harry Potter, it has also been the scene of James Bond and Star Wars cinematic creations.

The huge indoor and outdoor studio area was an airfield during World War II, before being turned into a Rolls-Royce engine factory and eventually taking on its current role.

It is expected that many individuals keen to see Harry Potter props and get caught up in the magic of the experience will flock to the attraction, which is due to open next spring.

Among the movie props they will get to see are elaborate ‘stonework’ sections of the outer walls of the Great Hall at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and wooden tables featuring graffiti supposedly created by the school’s pupils.

In an interview with Reuters, John Richardson, who was special effects supervisor on the films, said: “There are so many kids and so many adults who have grown up with Harry Potter, it’s an opportunity for them to be close to all things Harry Potter and at the same time give the public the chance to see what goes into making a movie.”
