Family Cars Vs. City Cars

There comes a time in a person’s life when they decide to start family. As the first baby arrives, the baby will bring with it a lot of changes, one of them being the type of car its parents decide to drive. Many young couples are used to driving around in fancy city cars. However, while city cars are great to look at and to be admired in, they aren’t especially practical for families.

There are car features that are important to those who are starting a family, or that have a family that will be very different from those who are single with no children. For example, the most important car feature that will determine a car for a family is safety. In short, a family car needs to have lots of safety features built in. The car needs to be sturdy, and have a focus on construction features such as safe steering wheel turns, and braking systems. These features are important for city cars, but city cars are constructed for form, instead of for function.

Another feature that family cars should have is fuel economy. As the children grow and develop needs and schedules of their own, the family will be doing a lot of travelling in the car. There will be carpools back and forth to school. There will be after school and weekend activities for the children as well. The family will drive to the city for shopping trips.

They will certainly drive back and forth to the market for groceries. The parents will have to drive to work, and the family will take vacation trips to tourist attractions, and to visit with other family members, such as the grandparents. With all of this driving around, it’s important for family cars to be able to utilize fuel in a manner that is as economical as possible.

Family cars are usually constructed to look smart and conservative. The goal of family cars isn’t to impress one’s friends, or the opposite sex. The goal of a family car is to provide safety, comfort, and transportation. Beyond this, the appearance of a car will often signal to others one’s station in life. Car thieves usually aren’t that attracted to family cars. Car thieves are attracted to city cars. City cars are flashy, and they garner large amounts of cash on the resell market. Therefore, a car owner who has purchased family cars has less of a chance of finding that their car has been stolen.

Finally, family cars are easier and less expensive to insure. Since family cars are made with more safety features than city cars, they are deemed as less of an insurance risk. Therefore, these cars will save families even more money, which is great because a growing family needs as much money saved as possible.
