At this time of year, wedding season is in full swing and so demand for the relevant kitchen equipment and other catering supplies is high. One celebrity who tied the knot last year in a summer celebration was superstar Kate Moss.
The model got hitched to Jamie Hince and her nuptial bash was one to remember. Cellar Society performed the role of caterers for the event, the Daily Telegraph reports. The firm, which was set up by Bertie de Rougemont, his wife Andie and her mother in 1999, agreed to create a champagne tower.
About this, Mr de Rougemont remarked: “We’d never done one before but we just thought, ‘Great, let’s do it’. I like a bit of a challenge.
“I’d seen it before at a party in France and knew we could do it better. It had to be a proper one, with no Perspex in between like at a corporate party. We needed to stack up 500 free-standing glasses into which 360 bottles of Pol Roger would be poured in front of 300 guests, in a lovely Raj tent with a grass floor.”
The food and drink expert called up his catering supplies provider, who sent thousands of glasses. Each of the items had to be measured because if any were the wrong size, they would cause the tower to lean.
Unsurprisingly, Mr de Rougemont was nervous on the big day. He stated: “If you screw up in front of an audience like that, it’s game over. I thought, if this thing goes, we’ll take out Kate, Jamie, Mario and whoever else.”
Although the caterer is used to dealing with the rich and famous, he was still in awe of the attendees at this wedding. Commenting on this, he said: “I’ve seen some serious guest lists in my time but that one was just absurd. Basically, there wasn’t anyone vaguely mortal.”
During events of this kind, it is vital that caterers can rely on their suppliers of kitchen equipment and so on.
