Bringing Your Cat Out of Its Shell

Cats are known to be independent creatures who will come up to anyone who offers them food and will show affection when it suits them. However, not all cats are the same and form those who will be simply standoffish towards even their owner to those who are shy around anyone that they do not know extremely well, there may be many different traits seen in many different cats.

For those who wish their pet would be more friendly or sociable with strangers, it can often seem like there is very little that can be done, as every time there is a knock on the door, your kitty is likely to run away and hide, not to be seen again until long after guests have departed. However, there are plenty of ways to bring a cat out of its shell, and whilst it may be easier if you start to try this when they are young, it is never too late to get your pet used to being around people.

Kindness and reward will help, and ensuring that people are soothing and understanding when they are first introduced to your timid pet will help a great deal. However, whilst reassurance is good, it is also important not to overprotect kittens as, if you do, they may then never feel safe when you are not there.

Allowing cats to play with other animals is also a good idea, as is changing up their habitat. Giving them new things to explore will help them to feel more adventurous, and whether you constantly change the layout of your home or even take them to friends houses for certain periods of time, a change can very much do them good.

Finally, when offering treats as a reward, be sure not to overdo it as the food they eat needs to be very nutritionally balanced to ensure they stay in the best possible mood when finding their feet around others.
