Canvas printing is ideal for photographers

Canvas printing has become photography’s best friend. The joy of taking a photograph can now be easily shared with the world on social media sites and photography blog platforms. But your favourite photos from travels, holidays or even family portraits can be easily transform into personalised canvas prints, which will remain in perfect quality for many years to come. In fact, the best canvas print inks claim to last for 75 years!

Conventional photo paper has the tendency to buckle under the weight of ink required to give an exact colour match and reference, however heavy duty cotton canvas allows ink absorption without loss of colour intensity, meaning that the ink is set deep into the fabric. The textured surface of canvas also improves the colour gamut. The canvas is specifically manufactured to prevent bleeding, so the colours hold firm and do not merge together, allowing clean lines to be created. Recent improvements to the canvases used by canvas printing companies has seen protective films being adapted to make the canvas water resistant and to further improve the canvas lifespan. Wooden frames, usually made from solid pine, help to increase the longevity of the canvas print, as they provide strong support and are often used with stretcher bars that ensure the canvas does not bow.

Photographs can look so much more vibrant on screen and this was the main reason why many people tried digital photo frames, despite improvements with internal memory, the sales of digital frames has declined. Digital frames can only be used on a shelf, or mantelpiece and cannot be wall mounted.

Canvas printing has become the chosen medium for many photographers because regular ink jet printer can print at 300pdi. Screen resolution, the resolution of your photograph, is only 72 dpi, but high quality SLR cameras generate enormous images in RAW format and by adjusting the dpi in a photo-editing software the image can be easily resized. However, printing via a desktop printer will mean you lose some quality. Canvas printers have an output of 1440dpi and this results in greater image quality. So the beautiful photograph you took can now be accurately represented in printed format with the use of canvas printing.
