Chromatin analysis solutions from antibody suppliers

Modified histone antibodies and ChIP (chromatin immunoprecipitation) assays are central to epigenetics research. Recently, we at Novus Biologicals added a range of ChromataChIP kits to our antibody catalog, containing everything you need to perform ChIP assays with modified histone antibodies.

Chromatin is the highly ordered complex of genomic DNA, RNA, histones and enzymes which form the nuclear content of the cell. The histones undergo various post-translational modifications, enabling chromatin to alternate between its condensed (heterochromatin) or extended (euchromatin) form, to inhibit or promote gene transcription.

When studying DNA-related events in vitro, it’s important to realize that transcriptional and post-transcriptional functions may differ markedly between naked DNA, and those of assembled chromatin. Therefore it is essential to have reliable and accurate methods to analyze chromatin in vitro. In addition, reagents must be of a suitable purity and quality for ChIP and similar assays.

As one of the leading antibody suppliers for epigenetics research, we have an extensive antibody database devoted to this area. Our Epi-Plus modified histone antibodies were specifically developed for epigenetics research, in addition to which we have a full range of ChIP-validated reagents. Recently, we extended our antibody catalog with a range of ChromataChIP Kits, to enable fast accurate Chromatin Immunoprecipitation analysis of key histone targets.

ChIP is a powerful technique used to study protein-DNA complexes. In combination with ChIP-grade antibodies, it provides valuable information on protein-DNA interaction, for example how certain proteins or histone modifications associate with specific genomic regions. Briefly, specific antibodies bond to chromatin harvested from cell lysates, targeting the chromatin regions containing proteins of interest. A detection technique such as quantitative PCR is then used to identify specific DNA sequences.

As you would expect from one of the world’s leading antibody suppliers, we tested multiple component options to develop our ChromataChIP Kits. Each kit contains modified histone antibodies (protein of interest plus positive control), primers, buffers, magnetic beads and a DNA purification kit. A worthy addition to our antibody catalog, each is sufficient for 25 ChIP assays.
