Lingerie trends follow 40 year cycle

Clothing of all kinds goes in and out of fashion and lingerie is no exception. When ladies are on the lookout for new Freya bras and other items of Freya underwear, for example, they tend to select versions that are in vogue.

According to an article in the Sun, “vintage bedroom looks” that were last fashionable in the 1970s are now back in style. It pointed to research conducted by the lingerie brand Ultimo that found underwear tends to come back into fashion every 40 years or so.

As an example, it pointed to the 1960s “Mad Men style” stockings and suspenders that became popular again in the 2000s as “girls took up the burlesque dance craze”.

It also noted that 1920s camisoles came back on the scene in the 1960s thanks to hippy trends and they became popular again under suit jackets in the 2000s. Meanwhile, the 1950s pointed bras worn by screen stars like Jane Russell and Marilyn Monroe were copied by Madonna in the 1990s.

Commenting on the cyclical trends, Ultimo boss Michelle Mone said: “Trends come around in lingerie as they do in fashion and it doesn’t surprise me that it works on a 40-year cycle. It used to be that we changed our lingerie to suit fashions, but now underwear is setting the styles before outwear.”

At the moment, the most trendy bedroom look is said to be 1970s style lingerie. Madonna, Victoria Beckham, Nicki Minaj and Rhianna are among the celebrities who have been spotted wearing items like this.

There are plenty of different products for consumers to choose from when they’re on the lookout for new lingerie. Whether they want Freya bras and other items of Freya underwear or are keen to buy anything else, they can head online to source them quickly and with the minimum of hassle.
